Description

This is one of my villain characters.  The name is a bit generic for a villain and subject to change.  The first frame shows the dynamesh sculpt and the basic mesh, which has 2308 polys.  In the third and fourth frames, you can see my work on his clothing, armor, and weapon.
  • The hood is still the same subtool; it has a 3D layer to make it go up or down.  I can actually move a slider and watch it move up and down, which is pretty neat.
  • I like the curb chain a lot.  That third frame shows one of the links magnified.  Here's a tip if you want to sculpt a link for a curb chain in Zbrush: Turn on radial symmetry on any two axes, with radial count set to 2 [so 4 points of mirrored sculpting].  It may sound simple, but before this, I thought radial symmetry was only for cylinder-type shapes.
  • The mace was a lot of fun to work on.  It's basically 3 triple helixes, which are shown separately.  Yeah I just messed around with the helix primitive a lot.  lol
  • The belt required tons of work, but I like it.  It's supposed to be basically a leather chain and a steel chain woven together.
  • The mail is not a sheet made to look like mail.  It's actually made of about 5070 rings.  There are several techniques that you can use in Zbrush to make chainmail, and each has its strengths and weaknesses and each is best for certain applications.  I simply made a set of 4 rings and made an insertmesh curve brush with it.  The drawback is that with only one subdivision, the mail has about 650k polys [which is a lot for my taste for a subtool with such a basic overall shape] and it'll be impossible to pose.  If I want to pose Kane in such a way that his mail would change shape, I'll have to construct it again.
  • The fourth frame shows everything together.  I haven't worked on his body since I posted the second frame, so it still needs work, but I did add some polypaint and materials.  It's difficult to make the black on black on black color theme work well and read well..  So really everything is grey.  If it were really all black, then all you'd see is a black silhouette.  His body is supposed to appear to have the color and texture of obsidian, and ultimately it will have more sharp, jagged edges.
About the character:
Kane was inspired from Forgotten Realms lore.  He isn't technically a demon.  He's a tiefling, which means that one of his ancestors was a demon [in his case, it was the archdemon Graz'zt].  Kane is classified as an invoker, which means that he uses divine magical powers not through training, worship, and prayer, as clerics do, but innately.  He ruthlessly worked his way to the very top of the church of Bane, which holds vast power and influence.  He is Bane's chosen right hand.  There is not a shred of humanity left in Kane, only evil.

All Zbrush.  Questions and comments are welcome.
